Outdoor Statues
Are An Appealing Home Decorating Option
Outdoor statues are a great way to decorate your garden.
Sometimes it can be hard to give things a fresh look without
them. You can change the flowers, the layout, add a new
path, or even apply a fresh coat of paint to the outside of
your house, but sometimes none of this gives it just the
right flare. Outdoor statues give your garden a focus. They
can change the way everything looks very quickly and easily.
There are two approaches to choosing outdoor sculptures that
I have seen. In some gardens, the focus is on a central
outdoor statue. This is the same approach that is used in
most public parks, and it seems to go well with many
people's aesthetics. If you have a large bronze sculpture,
for example, or a particularly artistic work that you are
very proud of, you can set it up as the center of your yard.
Everything else is sort of a frame for it.
The other approach to
outdoor statues is much more playful.
It involves using a lot of little hidden things instead of
one central motif. In Portland Oregon, the city I live in,
there is an outdoor venue beer garden that uses this
approach very well. In amongst the plants on the patio,
there are several small statues that are easy to miss at
first. They are looking out at the customers, and as you sit
there you sometimes get glimpses of them out of the corner
of your eye. It gives the whole place a magical, playful
appearance that is very appealing – particularly in the
summer when it is warm enough to sit outside.
When you're picking out your statues, there's no reason to
feel constrained by conventional motifs. Although outdoor
angel statues are favored by many people, there are plenty
of other ways to decorate your garden. You can find statues
of wild animals, famous figures, or abstract forms. You can
even make your own outdoor statue if you want to. You can
use welding, clay, or some other material to make something
that looks very nice. You can even combine little pieces of
driftwood, using nails to hold it together and a saw or
simple carving tools to sculpt it. Have fun with it and see
what your imagination can come up with. The possibilities
really are limitless. If you don't like the forms that you
buy or create, you can always get others!
